Yesterday morning Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kedarnath shrine. He is on a tour of Uttarakhand on a one-day visit. It was opened after a six-month winter break.
He first landed at Jollygrant Airport in Dehradun in the morning and reached Kedarnath from MI-17.
PM arrived around 9:30 am at the divinity of the four Himalayan shrines (Chaar Dham) just before it is reopened.
He took part in essential rituals inside the temple, becoming the first to offer prayers at the shrine at the start of the pilgrimage season.
He has gifted a replica of the shrine, shawl, a rudraksha books on the Himalayas by the priests of the temple.
A large crowd gathered to see the Prime Minister.
PM Modi appeared here on this special occasion.
It is being said that just like Narendra Modi did Rudra Abhishek at Kashi Vishwanath temple during the UP polls. He did Rudra Abhishek in Kedarnath temple too.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is the third PM of the country who has visited Kedarnath shrine.
He reached Haridwar’s Patanjali Yog Peeth around 11:30 in the morning and participated in a program there.
Earlier also, VP Singh and Indira Gandhi have come here as PM. After Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee is also coming north this week.
Kedarnath is considered to be the biggest among 12 Jyotirlingas.
Apart from Kedarnath temple, Pranab Mukherjee will also go to Badrinath temple.
The door of shrine opened at 8:50 am and along with the PM Chief Minister TS Rawat and other BJP leaders.
A large number of pilgrims were kept waiting because of tight security until the PM pooja was completed.
Narendra Modi also took an aerial survey of Kedarnath after it was ruined in the month of June 2013 flash floods that almost killed more than 5000 people.
