The traditional delicious dish ‘khichdi’ has been chosen as ‘brand India food’ for the World Food India 2017 as it symbolizes the country’s ‘unity in diversity.’
Khichdi (khichri) is a dish that is originated in south India and is prepared in numerous households all over India. Whether its young or old men and women, it is served to everyone.
This dish is prepared using lentils (dal) and rice. In many parts of India, it is made using rice, spices, pulses, coarse cereals. Around 800-kilogram khichdi will be prepared live on November 4, 2017, at the World Food India function in an attempt to create a ‘world record’ and popularise it as a Brand India food internationally.
A big ‘kadhai’ of the capacity of 1,000 liters and 7 feet diameter will be used for the cooking purpose for the giant khichdi preparation.
The Minister of Food Processing Industries of India, Harsimrat Kaur Badal while calling it as the “queen of all foods,” has planned to globally promote ‘Khichdi’ as “HEALTHY, EASY, ECONOMIC, AND DELICIOUS.”
The top chefs will cook 800 kg of khichdi for the mega event to create a Guinness World Record in the ‘India’s biggest-ever global food expo’ on November 4, 2017, in Delhi.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Food Processing Minister, told:
“KHICHDI IS THE WONDERFUL STAPLE FOOD OF INDIA, AND IT IS REGARDED AS THE INDIAS’S HEALTHIEST FOOD. IT IS BEING EATEN ALL OVER INDIA BY RICH AND POOR PEOPLE”.
The khichdi will be prepared by famous chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who has been entitled as Great India Food Street brand ambassador for the 2-day function beginning November 3. It is organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) along with Food Processing Ministry.
The prepared khichdi will be served to near about 60,000 orphan kids, and guests presented there. It will also be distributed to the Foreign Missions Heads of India along with the recipe.
