Ind V/S China: Indian Women’s Hockey Team Clinched Asia Cup After 13 Years✌

Indian hockey team beats China by 5-4 in the final round of 2017 Women’s Asia Cup held in Kakamigahara, Japan through penalty shoot-out to copy their male fellows.

The triumph helped India to complete a double in the continental matches. In a final encounter at Gifu Hockey Stadium, both the parties failed to score in the first half, but Navjot Kaur gave team India the essential lead with a fantastic field goal in the 25 minute.

Playing in 4th Asia Cup final, India did the remarkable job to keep the match’s leading scorer Zhong Jiaqi shut, but to hinder Tiantian Luo from turning a late penalty corner in the last 47 minutes.

After 60 minutes of the tournament, the final score left 1-1, leading to a penalty shoot-out. Also in the shoot-out, both the sides are not able to break the deadlock at 4-4, with one contender from each camp missing the 5th and final penalties.

However, in the sudden death, Rani Rampal scored for India, while Liang Meiyu failed for China to give India a 5-4 triumph.

The title came after an extended period of nearly 13 years. The win also helped team India to qualify for 2018 World Cup in England as the ‘continental champions.’ The previous month, Indian men’s team conquers Malaysia in the Asia Cup (held in Dhaka) final by 2-1.

India beat Singapore by 10-0, Malaysia by 2-0 and China by 4-1. In the quarter-final round, India hit Kazakhstan by 7-1 before surpassing Japan by 4-2.

South Korea is the only other team to achieve this accomplishment, and they won both women’s and men’s Asia Cup in the year 1994.

In fact, China has already set his leg for the upcoming World Cup after reaching 2016-17 Hockey World League Semifinals earlier this year. However, in the Brussels leg, they lost to Netherlands by 2-0 in the finals.
