Indian boxer Ankush Dahiya won a gold medal in 60 kg category while the skilled L Devendro Singh bagged a silver in 52 kg category on the finals of the Ulaanbaatar Cup boxing tournament in Mongolia.
These two Indian boxers made India proud once again….!!
19-year-old Ankush defeated Korean Man Choe Chol who is also a former Asian youth silver medallist.
While Devendro Singh lost to Indonesia’s Aldoms Suguro, again a split decision.
Devendro Singh won silver in 52 kg Category…!!
India won total of 5 medals…!!
India thus signed off with 1 gold, 1 silver and three bronze medals from the Mongolia Boxing Tournament.
Devendro Singh who is a Commonwealth Games silver-medallist and also a former Asian Championships silver winner was the first performer to step inside the ring for India and was his usual dynamic self against Aldoms Suguro.
The diminutive Manipuri, who is getting back to form after recovering from some niggles, exhausted his rival with a fine display of tempo-boxing, not letting the intensity slip even once.
Devendro did well to connect fine body blows while denying a clear shot due to Aldoms Suguro’s shell guard.
However, much to the Indian boxer’s disappointment, L Devendro’s overall supremacy did not find favor with the judges who ruled 3-2 in Suguro’s favor.
However, the disappointment soon made way for felicitation when Ankush Dahiya edged past ‘Man Choe Chol’.
The young champ put his long height and reach as an advantage for better use and landed some strong straight blows, which swung the competition in his favor.
K Shyam Kumar, Priyanka Chaudhary, and Mohammed Hussamuddin lost their respective semifinal bouts to settle for bronze.
MD Hussamuddin won bronze in 56 kg Category
K Shyam Kumar won bronze in 49kg category
Priyanka Chaudhary won Bronze in 60 kg category
Well, let me tell you this is Ankush Dahiya’s maiden international medal at the senior level.
Congratulations to the winners!!!!
