45th and current President of the United States, Donald Trump has told supporters that his proposed wall along the border with Mexico could have “solar panels” that cut costs.
Trump said he’s proposed building a solar-panelled Mexico wall on the Mexican border that would pay for itself by producing electricity.
Addressing a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the president said the solar panels would provide “low-cost energy” and help to pay for the Mexico wall.
The U.S. president said:
Trump suggested the plan was his own, and further added:
Donald Trump said Mexico will have to pay much less money under the plan…!!
The President insisted he would make foot the cost of the wall but theMexican President Enrique Pena Nieto dismissed the idea and said his country will not pay for the wall.
However, the solar panels have been included in the designs for the Mexico wall submitted by the companies.
During his campaign, Mr. President pledged to build a “wall” along the Mexican border to halt drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
Mr. Trump told motivating supporters at a campaign-style rally in Lowa on Wednesday that he would “give you an idea that nobody has heard about yet”.
More than 200 companies are believed to have responded to an invitation from the Department of Homeland Security to submit designs for the Mexico wall.
Among all of them, was one from Gleason Partners in Las Vegas (United States) that proposed a wall of steel, solar panels, and cement. The DHS told that about 20 companies had been shortlisted.
In the month of April, US media reported that President Donald Trump had supported the idea with Republican Congressional leaders in talks at the White House.
The idea of a “solar-panelled Mexico wall” was also proposed in an article by an academic and an environmentalist last year in the Huffington Post and another article for the Wall Street Journal by 2 academics in the month of March.
