After Beef, now BJP wants momos to be banned. BJP legislator Ramesh Arora from J&K has been campaigning for a ban against the cheap street food that are invented in Nepal.

However, there are few people who don’t want momos to be banned.

Yes, you read it right! Ramesh Arora feels that momos are, “the root cause of several life-threatening diseases, including cancer of the intestine.”

Since everybody loves the street food, but not a lawyer and BJP legislator Ramesh Arora.

There are already many controversies running which are related to BJP, like “beef-eating” and “ban on the sale of cattle” for slaughter and now they are running a campaign against “momos.”

The main reason behind Ramesh Arora’s hatred is that it contains “Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)” or “Ajinomoto” (brand name ) which is a chemical flavor enhancer.

Ramesh has been speaking at public events since past five months, requesting a ban on the sale of momos at least in his state.

He said that its sale has dropped down by almost 35% since he has started the campaign of side-effects of momos via seminars and meetings.

Arora said:

He met health minister Bali Bhagat recently to convince him to prohibit the sale of soft savory Chinese street food.

Actually, he is not against the hygienic food and without harmful ingredients. His target is “momos” that is steamed and fried in the slums all over Jammu that is supplied to the 10 districts.

The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Cancer Research Institute, Kolkata agreed after a research in the year 2007 that “Ajinomoto” causes stomach cancer.

The WHO even declared it unsafe to eat momos in the year 2004.

But only 8of the 26 countries that use momos that extensively have prohibited it. The US Food and Drug Administration said that monosodium glutamate is generally safe.
