On Friday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj declared that the Passport would now be in English as well as in Hindi instead of just English and also fee reduced for kids and senior citizens.
At an event held on the completion of ’50 years of the Passport Act, 1967′.
10% less fee for new passports…!!
In changes aimed at simplifying the process of getting a passport, the Sushma also announced “10 percent reduction for new passports” for the applicants who are under 8 and over 60 years of age.
She also said that a copy of their Aadhar card, PAN card or ration cards could be submitted while applying for tatkal passports which would help people in rural areas to a great extent who do not have a PAN card.
And that copy would have a self- attested letter that he/she does not have any criminal case against him/her.

Personal details on the passports are now printed only in English language and Swaraj said she had received many complaints in getting a passport.
Sushma Swaraj said at an event to celebrate 50 years of the Passport Act, 1967.
She further added:
The postal department released a memorial stamp on the event which was attended by Ministers of State in the External Affairs Ministry M J Akbar and V K Singh and Communications Minister Manoj Sinha.
Swaraj said there was a hike in the demand for passports for the elderly….!!
During the Vedic era, she added that 8 years was when children were admitted to a “Gurukul” and vanasprartha (a retired life where all the time is devoted to ‘social service’) falls in the 60-year age category.
After studying passport rules, the external affairs minister realized that some of them were “unnecessary, impractical or obsolete”.
Sushma also highlighted the steps taken by her ministry in relieving rules for getting the international travel document, especially for divorced women, orphans, and single mothers.

She asked other states to copy Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana, Delhi, Goa and Chandigarh that complete the police verification process in less than 6 days.
Swaraj sought to ease fears of passport department officials and said that their career growth and promotion would not be hindered because of Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (PoPSK).
