Foreign languages like French and German may not be part of the three-language formula in schools from 2018 academic sessions. It will be offered as a fourth or fifth language.
HRD Ministry interacted to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and declared that the students who are dedicated to learning foreign languages should opt them as their fourth or fifth language.
Foreign languages will not be a part of the 3-language formula in schools…
A source said:
“LANGUAGES WHICH ARE LISTED IN THE 8TH SCHEDULE OF CONSTITUTION SHOULD NOT BE TAUGHT UNDER THE THREE LANGUAGE FORMULA. HOWEVER, THE LANGUAGES THAT ARE ‘PURELY FOREIGN, SHOULD BE TAUGHT AS A”FOURTH LANGUAGE’ AS AN ELECTIVE SUBJECT.”
“CONSULTATIONS ARE ON WITH CBSE AND THE CHANGES ARE POSSIBLY TO BE IMPLEMENTED FROM NEXT ACADEMIC SESSIONS.”
Do You Know What Is Three-language formula?
As per National Education Policy, the three-language formula needs to have students in states that speaks Hindi to learn a modern Indian language, besides from English and Hindi.
And in non-Hindi-speaking states to learn Hindi in addition to their regional language and English language.
Meanwhile, most of 18,000 affiliated agencies offer the mother tongue or English, Hindi, and a foreign language like Mandarin and German up to Class 8th.
Last year in December, CBSE had also sent the proposed three- language formula for the secondary education to HRD ministry launching off the speculation over if as to when the new move would kick-start.
This new proposal will result in two main differences with the existing three-language formula of CBSE that applies to Class 8. One, it extends the proposal till Class 10, and another one is that it will offer an excellent chance for students who want to learn foreign languages.
