At least 2, people died, 20 were missing including a small child, and much more were stranded in Japan flood that has forced hundreds of thousands of people to abandon their homes.
They were calling for help across areas of Oita and Fukuoka prefectures on the Japanese south-western island Kyushu.
Fukuoka and Oita prefectures were the worst-hit by the rain..!!
Rivers burst their banks and the heavy water level destroyed the buildings and roads after more than 50cm (20in) of torrential rain fell within 12 hours on Wednesday.
250 people rescued so far…!!
The government said that more than 7,500 rescue workers including soldiers, firefighters, and Japan’s Self Defence police officers have been sent to the spot where they had rescued 250 people till now and searching for missing people.
Children and teachers at a school were among those swept away by the floodwaters….!!
The massive landslides caused by the flood left at least two houses carried away with the flow of water.
About 400,000 people have been ordered to abandon their homes mainly in the parts of Oita and Fukuoka prefectures.
Fukuoka Rain broke all records…!!
Japan’s weather bureau said the amount of rain in the Fukuoka region had broken all the previous records and was continuing to fall.
Parts of Fukuoka Prefecture were hit by 774 mm of heavy rain in 9 hours on Wednesday, more than 2 times the amount of rain that falls normally in July.
50 helicopters needed…!!
The Officials said the military presence need 50 helicopters more if possible to rescue 5,000 people stuck in floods.
Japan’s Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso warned that hillsides might collapse and said:
“We are in an extremely serious situation”.
