Try DIY Carpet Cleaning Recipes to Save your Pennies


Tackling carpet stains are the worst. Just vacuum clean them two times a week to remove stains and preserve the carpet, and then follow the following steps for cleaning.

1. Baking Soda + Borax Powder

You Will Need:

a) 1 cup baking soda
b) 1 tbsp dried herbs
c) 1 cup baking powder
d) Mason jar
e) 20 drops essential oil

Steps:

a) Take borax and add this to the bowl.
b) Now add baking soda and favorite dried herbs/flowers powder to it.
c) Add essential oil to it and shake your mixture well.

How to use?

a) Sprinkle the powder onto your carpet.
b) Spread it evenly and let it sit for about ten minutes.
c) Vacuum it all up to make your carpet fresh.

2. White Vinegar + Baking Soda

You Will Need:

a) 1 tsp white vinegar
b) Tiny spray bottle
c) 1 cup hot water
d) 1 tsp dishwashing liquid
e) Clean sponge
f) Clean absorbent towel
g) 1 tsp baking soda

Steps:

a) Mix Vinegar and baking soda.
b) Now add the dishwashing liquid to the spray bottle.
c) Top it with hot water and Vacuum over the stained area
d) Wipe it gently with a sponge.
e) Spray the soiled area with carpet cleaner,
f) Gently rub and dab the towel on it.
g) Continue dabbing and wiping with the towel to eliminate the stain entirely.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide + Lemon Juice

You Will Need:

a) 1/3 full bottle of hydrogen peroxide
b) 5 drops of lemon essential oil

Steps:

a) Use hydrogen peroxide and fill the rest 2/3 with water.
b) Now add lemon essential oil to it and shake it gently.

How to Use?

a) Spray the carpet with this mix.
b) Now use a scrub brush to loosen the fiber.
c) Use a rag and wipe the carpet with it.
d) Repeat it for few times till your carpet gets clean.

Note: Hydrogen-peroxide lightens the darker flooring. So, you need to test it behind the door to make sure that it won’t lighten your spread. If it bleaches, dilute with more water.

Synthetic-Carpet Cleaners

Soak a white cloth in this solution and apply this to the stained areas. You should avoid pouring the solution directly onto the carpet.

A. Detergent blend

You Will Need:

a) 1/4 tsp translucent liquid dishwashing detergent
b) 1 cup tepid water

Steps:

a) Combine the two of them.

B. Vinegar Solution

You Will Need:

a) 1 cup white vinegar
b) 2 cups water

Steps:

a) Mix the two well.

Natural-Fiber-Carpet Cleaners

Put the following solution in the spray bottles and spray the solution onto the stained region.

A. Vinegar Solution

You Will Need:

a) 1/4 cup of white vinegar
b) 1/4 cup of water

Steps:

a) Mix them well.

B. Ammonia Solution

You Will Need:

a) 1 tbsp household ammonia
b) 1/2 cup lukewarm water
c) Bowl

Steps:

a) Fill a bowl with ammonia and cold water.
b) Soak a clean rag into the bowl.
c) Sponge the cleaning blend onto stained area of the carpet.
d) Let it sit for 5 minutes.
e) Blot it again with rag and cleaning combination till the stain gets vanished.
f) Rinse the stained area in the carpet with a rag.

General Water-Soluble Stains

You Will Need:

a) Empty spray bottle
b) 32 oz cool water
c) ¼ tsp bleach-free dish soap
d) ¼ tsp white vinegar

Steps:

a) Fill an empty spray bottle with cold water.
b) Add white vinegar and dish soap to the bottle.
c) Shake the bottle well to mix the ingredients well.
d) Spray it onto the stained carpet.
e) Wait for 5 minutes and Blot the stain using a clean rag.
f) Wash the area with plain water.

Oil-based Stains

You Will Need:

a) Baby powder/baking soda/cornstarch
b) 1 cup cool water
c) ¼ tsp. bleach-free dish soap

Steps:

a) Sprinkle any one of the above ingredients on the new stain.
b) Let it sit for 20 minutes and Vacuum up the powder.
c) Fill a bowl with cold water and add bleach-free dish soap to it.
d) Stir it well using a spoon to mix all.
e) Dip a clean rag into this solution and blot the stained area with it.

Note: Work from the outside stain and slowly move towards the center.
f) Rinse the carpet with water.
g) Mix 2 Tbsp ammonia if the stain doesn’t get faded entirely.
h) Sponge the solution onto the carpet with a clean rag.
i) Blot the carpet till the stain removes.
j) Wash it with plain water.
k) Combine water and vinegar solution in a clean bowl to neutralize the ammonia.
l) Mix 1 cup white vinegar with 2 cups water.
m) Apply this to the clean rag and blot it over the affected area.
