On Monday, Supreme Court ordered that the firecrackers won’t be sold out this Diwali in Delhi till November 1, 2017. And the Twitterati busted out with mixed statements.

The SC said that it wants to test out the effect of banning crackers on the air quality post-Diwali. This step is taken in the spotlight to curb out the rising air pollution in India’s capital.

In November last year, the court had prevented the sale of fireworks within the NCR and nearby areas.

Each year, Diwali leave the Delhi’s air dense with dangerous smog and suspended particles, and many inhabitants are complaining of health problems related to lung and breathlessness.

Last year during Diwali, the pollution in Delhi was very lethal and the worst in ten years.

After the festival, the Supreme Court, responding to a 2015 petition by three children aged between 6 and 14 months, banned the sale of crackers.

“WE ARE THE MOST PRONE CATEGORY WHEN IT COMES TO AIR POLLUTION SPECIALLY FROM SUSPENDED TOXINS AND PARTICLES. WE ARE FOREMOST VULNERABLE TO ASTHMA, LUNG DISEASE, BRONCHITIS, COUGHING, COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT, RETARDED DEVELOPMENT TO THE NERVOUS SYSTEM”.

Firecrackers Industry fears Rs 1k crore loss…..

Firecracker industry workers said that crackers cause air pollution only for a week but the vehicles pollute 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in all 365 days a year.

This move may clear out the air pollution but it will surely cause loss of lakhs of workers in fireworks manufacturing hub in Tamil Nadu. It is estimated that nearly 85% of all crackers sold in India. they even added that other states might follow the court order.

President of Amorces Manufacturers Association and Tamil Nadu Fireworks, Asai Thambi said:

“DIWALI IS THE TIME WE MAKE MOST PROFITS, AND SC ORDER WILL WHOLLY SMASH MANY UNITS.”

He said there was no time left for a review of the order as just 10 days are left for the festival. Asai Thambi further added:

“WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE LOSS OF JOBS AND LIVELIHOOD OPTIONS FOR PUBLIC IF THE CRACKERS ARE PROHIBITED IN THE OTHER CITIES TOO.”

Sivakasi manufacturers association said:

“SOME NGO OR OTHER PETITIONER CAN DESTROY THE DIWALI OF PRODUCERS BY REGISTERING A PLEA IN ANY COURT, STATING THAT THE SC BAN SEEK OUT SAME ORDER TO STOP NOISE AND AIR POLLUTION”.
