The 67-year-old actor Tom Alter is fighting with life limiting illness ‘cancer’ and is at present admitted to a Saifee Hospital in Mumbai on Monday after a deterioration of a squamous cell ‘Carcinoma,’ his family states.
Tom who is known for a career mounting movies, TV and theatre, he is now suffering from fourth stage bone cancer. He is currently undergoing his treatment and is under a supervision of doctors.
The famous actor’s family of Padma Shri winner Tom Alter shared the sad news on Monday, a week after he got admitted to hospital.
Sad over “realistically incorrect” stories about his beloved father suffering bone cancer, Tom Alter’s son Jamie told IANS:
“IT IS CALLED A ‘SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA’ (A TYPE OF SKIN CANCER). IT IS A RELAPSE OF THE SMILIR THING WHICH HAD HAPPENED LAST YEAR AND SADLY. FOR VARIOUS REASONS, IT WASN’T DETECTED AT THAT TIME AND HAS RETURNED AGAIN”.
Last year too, Tom had to get his thumb amputated due to his skin disease. Now, he is in the fourth stage, Jamie said.
“HE’S BATTLING IT WELL. HE IS SHOWING THE WILL TO FIGHT IT OUT” he further added.
Jamie said that “Tom is under the best care possible. Many doctors from all over the country are in consultation. As a family, we are very cheerful with the care he is getting. His body functions are outstanding.
The doctors are also very joyful with that. The past one week has gone in getting him in some physical strength, whereby the doctor can begin the next round care.”
Jamie said his family wants privacy in the case.
“WE WILL BE RELEASING STATEMENTS TO THE MEDIA AS AND WHEN THINGS HAPPEN.”
Tom is Known for his famous shows like Bharat Ek Khoj, Betaal Pachisi, Zabaan Sambhalke.He is an American-origin actor settled in India. He has had a growing career on stage, and on the big screen too he has played important roles in successful movies like Gandhi, Parinda, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Aashiqui, and Kranti.
In the year 2008, he was honored with the Padma Shri. Tom was last seen on the big screen in Sargoshiyan, that got mixed reviews from the critics.
